In an OR configured for cardiac surgery, there is an anesthesia stand at the head end, as well as a specially equipped surgical stand at the opposite foot end. In addition, there are two horizontally opposing stands, each equipped with one surgical light and one monitor bracket for the imaging system. This operating room is also allocated a heart-lung machine, which is ideally placed in a preparation room directly adjacent in order to prevent long transport routes.
The cardiac surgery OR should be about 60 m² to provide sufficient space for the heart-lung machine as well as the large operating team. Because of the high requirement for extremely bacteria-free and low turbulence air in the operating area, the operating room must be equipped with an LAF outlet.
